The luxury of being a writer
I remember being told by one of my English teachers that 'Writers have an amazing opportunity'.
As writers we really do have something special. Many people wish that they could change their lives and have things the way they want them. When we write and then preform or see others perform we are doing exactly this. We are shaping a reality that does and is exactly what we want. We create our characters and then have them do exactly what we want them do to do. Events unfold exactly how we want them to. This undervalued luxury is evident even in poetry, we shape a story that takes a listener or reader into our reality for a few short minutes.
We as writers have the power to shape a reality of our choosing.

That is something I already do. I write plays as well as poems and if a section/stanza doesn't work for something I'll write it on an index card and keep it in case I can use it again.
