HAVING IT ON HIS TOES
Recalling a memorable day when an unfancied 16/1 outsider won the £100,000 Redcar Trophy for 2 yr olds. The name of the winner has been abridged to suit the poem!
......................................................................................................................................................
The day was bright...without a frown,
At the Redcar seaside track,
The day The Dancer trotted down -
And decided to fly back.
Surely, many ambitions burned
To land the famous Cup,
But as far as The Dancer was concerned,
They needn't have turned up.
Down the centre, like a bolt
From finest tempered steels,
Flew the long-shot leggy colt
Showing the rest his heels.
It was plain a long way out,
The prize was won and dusted,
The field weren't even thereabouts,
Their chances done and busted.
,
The victors held the Trophy up,
Their faces bright with glee,
The day The Dancer won the Cup
At Redcar by the sea.

I'm not a racing man, MC, but enjoyed the canter anyway.
