Trev's Texas Tour 2012 (Austin to McAllen)
25.4.12
Image: Me with the Mariachi, singers at a Mexican Restaurant on my first night in McAllen (no I didn't sing with them).
121) Last night I met with a smile,
Someone I hadn’t seen for a while
We met last year on my very first night
She was waiting for me at the end of my flight
Waiting at journeys end, someone to depend
Now my feet were back on solid ground get me to my motel safe and sound
I asked in fun “are you who I think you are,
And do you remember collecting my car?”
Our hug and smile said it plain nice to see you once again
122) I’d got the card saving 3 cents a gallon, fuelled up ready for McAllen
Early morning and still dark when I left the motel car park
Gradually the miles passed away, night giving way
To a morning sky of dirty grey
Was it some sort of weather warning?
Were we goin’ to have rain this morning?’
No worries cos’ later the sun broke through
Once more drivin’ under a sky of blue
But before those in McAllen I meet, I’m gonna stop for a bite to eat
123) Thirst sated, hunger abated
Egg, sausage and hash brown now carry on to McAllen town
Just to pay then on my way
At first it seemed like disorder, but everything was cooked fresh to order
124) Breakfast stop now far behind, a stop for fuel then I’ll find
McAllen and my motel for the next 5 nights I’ll dwell
But a priority it’s number one, gotta get my washing done
Without a doubt, of clean socks I’m running out
An’ I don’t want to meet
Fellow poets wearing old socks and havin’ stinky feet
125) Reached McAllen an’ gave a cheer, rung Daniel an’ said “I’m here”
He said glad you got here without distress”
I said “now I’ve a few shirts to press”
He replied “I’m a teacher so listen out; I’ll call you when school is out”
So chores done enjoy a walk in the afternoon sun
Time to explore part what I came here for
The rest of the time, share my work in rhyme
And listen to the work of others, my poetry sisters and brothers
Poetry in seriousness or jest, at the Valley International Poetry Fest
