Performance Poet Publication Launch

entry picture

Here’s a poetry book launch with a difference. Burning Eye Books was established to turn performance poets into page-published ones; a superb idea.

They launch their first title in Bristol this Friday, 25th May, Slinky Espadrilles, by multi-slam champion, Ash Dickinson. As Write Out Loud’s flourishing poetry blogs testify, open-mic or performance poets are as capable of writing superb stuff on pages - electronic or ink-stained - as they are of holding an audience. Whereas not all ‘page’ poets can do that in reverse.

Founded earlier this year, Burning Eye will publish collections by established and up-and-coming performance poets. Editor Clive Birnie says of Ash’s book, “This is the sort of poetry that gets people into poetry in the first place: accessible, funny, surreal and always entertaining."

The launch is at The Lansdown pub in Clifton (8 Clifton Road, Bristol, Avon BS8 1AF 0117 973 4949)  at 8pm and entry is free. More details on their gig guide entry.
