Judge of both Competitions.

Linda Walters, has had both poetry and prose published in several anthologies and magazines. She has had work published on The Federation of Workers Writers and Community Publishers website. She has recently read some of her own, and her late husband Ted’s poetry and prose out live on radio. Linda is a keen supporter of all writing initiatives throughout the North West of England. She met her husband Ted, when they both joined the same creative writing group on Merseyside in the 1990’s. In 2002 both Linda and Ted became members of The University of Liverpool Creative Writing Society for Lifelong Learning. Linda has described being asked to judge this poetry and short story competition, which has been set up to commemorate her husband Ted’s name, as being, ‘ the most touching and proudest moment in her life.’

To Commemorate.

Ted Walters, was born in Liverpool on the 17th April 1951. He grew up in the City, attending the Liverpool Collegiate School as a boy. Ted was always a very gifted communicator, with an impeccable sense of comic timing. He would often write long and hilarious letters to his friends and family, who persuaded him to try and share his talent with a much wider audience. His stories were always well received, and Ted’s writing was eventually published and broadcast on radio. Ted was a committed member of The University of Liverpool Creative Writing Society For Lifelong Learning. His enthusiasm for writing was only rivalled by his passion for football, and a life long love-hate relationship with Liverpool Football Club. Ted died of cancer of 15th August 2006.

Acknowledgement.

As Secretary and Founder member of The University of Liverpool Creative Writing Society for Lifelong Learning. I would like to say a few words for Ted. On behalf of myself, and all the members of our writing group. Ted Walters was not only a wonderful man, and a loving husband to Linda, but also an exceptionally talented writer who made us all laugh many times;…. But he made us all cry once too!

“A transfusion of ink from his needle-point pen,
gave life to his characters; women, children and men.
He transformed his blank pages into script, prose or rhyme,
Kept us enthralled and engaged time….after..time…after..time.

It was an honour and a pleasure to have known you Ted.
Tommy McBride (Group Secretary and Friend.)
