While I Was Writing Something Else...
Olympics? I thought, what a lot of expense!
I shan’t write any poetry on that.
But then ‘Endeavour’ just happened along,
It seemed to pop straight out of my hat!
While I was writing about something steamy
A sporty angle took over instead,
I had to go back and change the first line
To get the whole thing out of my head.
I haven’t watched any of the events,
It has really all just passed me by,
But maybe a little of the spirit
Decided to pop up and say, “Hi!”
My ode’s careful not to mention Olympics,
It’s all about excelling in sport.
I never tagged it for the competition
Even though that is what people thought.
So now what do I do with the stupid thing?
Should I forget it, delete it or tag it?
Well, it got a couple of nice comments
Though Tommy Carroll thought it a maggot!
P.S. I think I agree... :o)

Haha, more like shorts and fit-flops, Stef!
It was one of those "think up a first line and see where it takes you" type of poem, but seeing as I changed the first line, it was free to take me off somewhere else.
Thanks for comment, another coming up. xx
