Fuchsias are an Autumn Flower
Fuchsias are an Autumn Flower
On the fifth I saw your face,
So full of life I let your heart
Collide with mine in
Pyrotechnic dreams,
I knew you then,
As I know you now.
With time to give,
Our souls to please –
We shared our lives.
Confronting fears we
Forged our passions,
Our only gift of infant life,
(For a long time the
Fuchsias stayed red
In our summer garden).
We’re not for death
We made our oath,
Believed ourselves
We will not be broke,
Catching jealousy
And spite – a challenge
To our every honour.
Our fate in heavens
Glory, our courtesy,
Witnessed by the stars
We longed to kiss,
Longer still we wanted,
Forever needed,
All our fervent feelings
Salted.
Those summer
Nights we made it
True – enthused we
Vaulted blues and
Greens – skipped
Along celestial beings
And sat within Aquarius
(Till devils made their call).
Those days have all
Now passed in time
As memory fades
And takes away your
Smile from mine,
Your wishing eyes
That jolted men
From dreary days!
To sleep within
Those universal pools
Again would take away
This pain, These icicles
Of broken shards.
I thought it would be
Forever, until I uttered
Words with spears
In raucous speech
Saluting Gods of wine
And beer, your tears!
Oh Bacchus pride you lied,
And made a fool of her and I.

Finding your material interesting, especially the way you combine ancient-classical references with current grit. T'other Mike.
