When the hours feel

like hammers against the kneecaps

 

When every mouth that

opens looks like a steel trap

 

When the only things you’ve

got in are a block of cheese and a broken egg

 

When that kid on the

scooter rides into your leg

 

When the truth is

translucent and the lies are bold

 

When you sleep in your

coat because the flat’s too cold

 

When the cooker is broken

and the telly is on the blink

 

When the toilet’s blocked

and you have to piss in the sink

 

When the job’s not worth

the hassle, but you need the money

 

When everyone laughs

but you don’t find it funny

 

When you’ve taken the

blue pill and you should have took the red

 

 

…that’s when you realise

you shouldn’t have got out of

bed.
