Mighty David strode out

and his footsteps settled

across the land.

His challenge roared

over the desert.

“My Father's House

bequeathed by Abraham,

given by God,

reclaims the heritage

of 3,000 years.”

Fractured Philistia was

without a champion

to match David.

From among their

shaken, squabbling number

tiny Goliath came forward.

With his home made slingshot

Goliath grazed

David's small finger.

The wrath of David

rained down

on the Philistines.

Goliath smiled.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the comments.

The reason that Goliath smiled is that in this poem Goliath represents Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the Al Aqsa Brigades and other militant fragments who fight the Israelis in the name of Palestinian resistance. What the poem is saying is that the huge weight of Israeli bombs and missilses will create more determination among the friends, relatives and comrades of those who have been killed to breed more resistance movements and new ways to strike the mighty David.

When the original Goliath was struck on the forehead by David's pebble he certainly did stay down (along with his 60 tons of armour) because David went and cut off his head with his own sword. Goliath in that story represented the Philistines. Ancient Philistia is the modern Gaza strip and the point being made is that cutting off Goliath's head about 3,000 years ago did not eliminate the Philistines. The Philistines (Palestinians) are now small and David (Israel) is mighty, but the slingshot is still a force to be reckoned with and David could fall along with his enormous armour.

Didn't Dylan say 'Everybody MUST get stoned?'
