My son's first love
I said to myself I would like you
After all
We had both been swimming
Against a tide
A thing worth having…
And all that
‘There isn’t a girl in this world that doesn’t like me’
I said to him
Wanting that to be true
And one day in floats you
Quietly striding the breadth
Of the living room
Terrified
Expecting to see a monster
That was never there
Your bravery was already legend to me
I overheard a tale
Disguised in a durge
That without thinking
You dived in
Breathing life
Into a soul
Half drowned
Believing
As I did
A precious thing
Resided
In a hard shell
So I knew I was going to like you
You were already beautiful
Before I saw
How beautiful you are

Thanks Steve and Hugh. New experiences always inspire me. But I couldn't show her the poem, she'd be terrified of me again!
