Elephants on the Beach
As a child I once saw Elephants on Blackpool beach.
They lived under the tower, outside rarely seen,
But each morning I believe just as day fully took night
Elephants could be seen.
Like beautiful children holding tails they crossed
That famous promenade, and in my mind camera
Etched forever they will always parade.
Tram lines like cracks on pavement never standing
For fear of being taken back?
Old age latter asked me that
That they longed for freedom adolescence
Could not comprehend or understand.
All I saw were children like me playing in the sea.
But if long eye-lashed pools I had gained
A trunken head turned
Tear laden in stare return
Would I have understood there pain?
Perhaps no such tears were shed
Instead the moment simply as I saw it
Like me Just children playing in the sea
