ANOTHER NEW YEAR
ANOTHER NEW YEAR.
Attend your church.
Lurching forward
Towards new year.
No new news,
Only the same old views,
From the same old crews,
Kneeling in the same old pews
As last year.
Cleaning out their souls.
Caught sinking in the holes
Dug by last years fancies.
Their attention held in holy trances.
Fortunately,
Between the saddle and the ground
Salvation can be found.
Forgiveness given for the past.
Then onward
Unto money driven
Futures once again.
At last.
Forget the mistakes you make
For tomorrow takes
Presidence over all.
View your future
As a kind of suture
That stitches your ragged soul.
Just immerse in pleasure.
And remember,
You can repent at leisure
By attending your church
Again.
As you lurch
Again.
Towards
Another new year,
Next year.
Telling the same old story.
Depending on holy glory
To admonish your sins.
This annual faith seems to win
Every time.
Kneel next to last year’s neighbour,
Who’s seeking a similar favour
From his once a year lord and master.
He has no new news.
He simply joins the same old crews,
Who have similar views,
To you.
Ad infinitum.
