Stroke

If you suspect that either you
Or someone is having a stroke,
Phone 999 immediately! For
An ambulance, it’s no joke.

Even if the symptoms subside
Disappear while you are waiting,
You or the person must attend A&E!
For assessment, No Excuse! No debating.

Symptoms may well disappear
Which could mean a TIA,
Transient ischaemic attack
It’s the medical term anyway.

You could be at risk of having
A full stroke at a later stage,
A stroke can happen at any time
It can happen at any age.

After initial assessment, admission
To hospital they may take you in,
To receive a more in-depth assessment
For specialist treatment to begin.

Recognising the signs & symptoms
From person to person they vary,
But none the less when it happens
For the person involved will be scary.

A stroke usually begins suddenly
Different parts of your brain control,
Different parts of your body I’ll explain
In more depth then you will know.

The Face may droop to one side
Towards you they may be hostile,
Their mouth or eye may also droop
They may be unable to smile.

Due to weakness caused by the stroke
The person may be unable to lift,
One or both Arms may be floppy
So you have to act now be swift.

Their Speech may be slurred or garbled
Or they may be unable to talk,
Despite appearing to be awake!
Be ready to treat them for shock.

If you recognise any signs or symptoms
Whether they do or don’t last,
It’s Time to call 999
Face, Arms, Speech, Time.

Act FAST
