Jigsaw

They say you cannot live without me,

yet I am happy lying here alone –

adrift on an ocean of Axminster.

You didn’t miss me until you were finished

and by then it was far too late.

I was just one of your many pretty pieces,

inconsequential to the scheme of things,

until I was the only thing you needed.

By then I was safely hidden away,

face down where I had fallen.

The image on the box lied,

there were no blue skies -

only a hole in the sun

of our picture-perfect world,

casting a strange shadow

on everything it touched.

Now you are worthless

and I am unique.

Too bad.

Love the last 3 lines. A good read. Surprised you've not entered it in the comp.

I enjoyed this. Even though you've called it 'Jigsaw' I wasn't expecting it to be literal and was surprised when I realised! I'm a fool, I know.
