Trev hits Texas again, his 2013 tour. (Lamesa & The Forrest Fest).
15.04.13. Immage: Connies house in Lamesa
34) Grackle cacophony in the tree above
Accompanied by gentle cooing of the dove
Heralds the morning says farewell to night
Pretty soon they'll all take flight
Soaring up and away, at the start of a new Lamesa day
35) 9:15 and off we go, our first morning radio show
By 9:30 we had to be, at Radio KPET
Don welcomed us there, got us on the air
Promoting the Forrest Fest as one would expect
Information with poetry interject
We'd done well we both felt proud
Now to update my blog at Write Out Loud
Don is the Presenter at KPET, he is also blind but that doesn't stop him
36) We got the notion to do Festival promotion
Took the posters round Lamesa town
It was going well, then I thought 'Oh hell'
I hadn't gone far when I guy backed into my car
It was a slight scrape but still no jape
Progress stalled, the police were called
Our licences checked, though neither car was wrecked
Cool as a cucumber he gave me an incident number
No need for sorrow, pick the report up tomoorow
To the car hire firm the report was given
They said "thanks" so with grief I wasn't riven
I said I'm soon passing your way, I'll drop it in if I may
They said "Thanks that's ok now you go an' have a nice day"
37) It should have been fun an annual marathon run
Fancy dress for hilarity, serious side for charity
All going fine, runners cross the finnish line
Crowds excitement doesn’t diminish still more runners to finish
Waiting for the last, then suddenly a blast
Shockwave, shrapnel flying spectators injured and dying
Shock, horror, dread, an 8 year old child among the dead
I watch tv see it unfold, my blood runs cold
Though I’m miles away I watch what’s happening there
Emergency workers and others showing they care
I pray they’ll find the scum that did it
And the world of terrorism rid it
Written the day of the Boston bombing
38) At KPET Radio we did a show
Giving our best to promote the Forrest Fest
Drove round town getting’ the posters out
Hadn’t gone far when someone bumped my car
No need to be thwarted, Police called everything sorted
Written some more, poems about my tour
Open top car drive, feeling’ alive
Now as is my will I’m gonna sit an’ chill
As once more the sun goes down on Lamesa town.
16.04.13. 39) Down the road again I go, once more to KPET radio
Giving my best promoting the Forrest Fest
Mentioning what happened yesterday
Our thought with those involved today
The fest promoted, main events noted
It went well presenter Don did tell
Came out to my car but would have got far
Cos’ knock me to the floor, I tried to get in the wrong door
40) Came back from KPET to find, I’d left my poetry behind
No need to fear, I did the same last year
I’d forgot so went back and it I got
Then I thought it would be just right
To give the local Fire guys an invite
So they could be there and see the dedication of the tree
To me it would be grand, cos’ last year they gave a hand
Helpin’ keep the tree alive but sadly it didn’t survive
But no time for cryin, it wasn’t through lack of tryin’
They were delighted to be invited
Comin’ away was almost in vain
I’d tried to get in the wrong car door again
41) Drivin’ across the Texas plain, I’m headin’ for Jack an’ Diane’s again
I sure am for their weekly music jam
One thing I’ll tell, it’s sure to go well
Northward I’m bound for Lubbock town
Poems in my bag, no time to lag
Road clear drive without fear
Arrive in time for a bite to eat, pork tamales sure tasted neat
Then get it on down, at Jack and Diane’s in Lubbock town
Guitar and banjo strummin’ percussion an’ drummin’
Washboard too, no need to be blue
Jammin’ heaven not hell, the night goin’ well
At the end goodnight was bid
Did I have a good time? I sure as hell did.
17.01.03 42) The mornin’ after the night before
I’m writin’ another poetry score
About my delight, in enjoy in the Jam night
Not a true music maker I joined the rhythm with a shaker
An’ I got the time to share my work in rhyme
I was glad I took the time, as two singers wanted to put music to my rhyme
So with intent the words were sent
The words they’ve got so like as not
Whatever comes along
I’m looking forward to my poems becoming a song
43) I'm in Lamesa once again, friendly town on the Texas plain
To visitors who have come far
The folk smile and ask how you are
For an answer don’t feel blue
Just smile and say “I’m good how are you?”
44) Out an’ about takin’ the Fest Flyers out
Talkin’ to folks makin’ jokes
Goin’ like a dream, stop for ice cream
Round Lamesa I’ve been gaddin’ to my blog I’ve been addin’
Poems I’ve writ, hope they’ll be a hit
To the crowds delight when I recite
Will they say encore recite some more
An’ this Brit again be a local hit
18.04.13 45) I didn't hear the wind last night
When I slept I slept tight
Came out to my car this mornin’
The trunk was open like it was yawnin’
Didn’t want to drive like a clown, so I closed it down
But durn my hide once more I tried to get in the wrong side
46) Festival eve I do believe
On their way, Thom an' Bob an; Steve
No name but a few plus the others
Gather at Darla's like sisters and brothers
The sky's blue, the winds still blowin'
I got a map so's I know where I'm goin'
Settin of now cos' I've a mind, it'll be easy to find
Thom and Bob are there awaitin, no time to be debatin'
So once more across the Texas plain, it'll be really great to meet up again.
47) Found Darla's house without tryin' the house with Old Glory flyin'
Thom, Bob, an Sarah already there, ready for a night of poetry flair
Greetings and a welcome so warm, sat around lkie bees in a swarm
Thom says "Bless my soul, Trev ain't seen the waterhole"
Asked "Do you want to see it now or later?"
I replied "now" Darla said "we'll take the gator"
Of we went, there were three, me an' Darla with Gus sat on my knee
Along the track through the brush, aint no need for us to rush
Not much water at the time, due to a sunny clime
But come the rain, it'll fill again
Providing water nice an' clear, for the wildlife includin' the deer
Darla says, "when it does it's like giving something back to the land that gives us our living.
Darla is Connies sister who owns a ranch,
Gator: A small rugged 4 whhel drive vehicle
Gus: Darla's dog
48) We sat aways and talked about our travellin' days
Thom said "Trev you got it right, how come you always travel so light?"
I said, "Cos where I go, where I've been, I know how to use a washing machine
49) To the lounge we were bound, so we could sit around
We'd all been fed, an' there were poems to be said
Songs to be sung, what the singers had brung
So we can all smile, enjoyin' and evenin' Texas style.
50) Bobs got his mud to sculpt as only he could
Evelyns come along to sing an original song
Steve's here same as last year
Sung about a man at the end of lifes roam
Now in an old folks home
Who when he here's a song he'll find,
Once more he's ridin' the range in his mind
An' a woman who likes to dance
Who like the man wishes she had the chance
Like in 1949 to walk across Texas one more time.
51) Bob's havin' trouble cop'n tryin to keep his eyes open
Connies relaxin' the weeks been so taxin'
Thom's sat there listenin' his eyes are glistenin'
Steve's singin maybe about cows in herds
I don't know cos' he keeps forgettin' the words
52) Steve sang another song but it was in vain, he forgot the words again
What should have been with the listeners a hit
Ended when he said "Oh s**t".
53) Steve's good at songs, at singin' he's delightin'
But slow at thinkin' up poems for recitin'
Sayin' I'm not as clever as that bloody Limey Trevor
Inspiration I didn't lack but answered right back
I couldn't argue or dispute, a Steve Brooks tribute
An maybe one day I'll see, him write a funny song about me.
19.04.13:54) A chill in the breeze blowin' this mornin' I'm goin'
To Connie's for a while I'll hang, meet up with the rest of the gang
From where we'll go to do our final KPET Radio Show
Then to places where folks have turned many of life's pages
Not old but recycled teenagers
55) A year ago it seemed an age, now I'm back at the Sage
An' it's always a delight when I recite an' say to the guests don't feel blue
Cos' if you can't make the Forrest Fest, we bring it to you.
Sage: A nursing home in Lamesa, we perform to the guests every year.
56) An old sailorman and a retired fireman
Shook each others hand
Age didn't matter, they had a brief natter
An' I capture in rhyme, another precious moment in time
57) In the Beehives once again, my trip aint been in vain
Cos' I'm reading the poems I've brung
To folks who in their hearts forever young
Beehives: Two Aged Persons Homes in Lamesa
58) We did the homes, poems song and wit, Thom said "don't use a word like s**t"
Cos we don't want the last 10 years to have been in vain
We want to come back again"
So inspiration came, it wouldn't read the same
Without faltering, two lines I was altering
So read to the letter it may read even better
59) Songs sung, poems recited, guests delighted
Instruments played, a short time we stayed
Gave folks pleasure, another moment to treasure
Cos' without doubt, that's what life should be about
Not doin' our worst, but puttin' others first.
60) Is garbage garbage, no it aint
Whether it's paper, plastic or unwanted paint
On a tree or other place, paper puld will make a face
Coke bottles don't throw 'em away
Different sizes you make pan pipes to play
Give me paper puld and ask, to be shown how to make a mask
And to make it really good, paint it with different colours of mud
Ideas and imagination coming from you, there's so much with garbage you can do
To have or have not, cos' garbage aint garbage, no it's not
61) Mud in your eye can be a disgrace, not so mud on your face
Mud on your fingers and you can inscribe, like warpaint from an Indian tribe
Various patterns you can do, so all I ask is what's stopping you?
62) Steve's on the roof at the Sky Vue, Evelyn's with him makln two
Singin about gettin' their kicks on Route 66
He sung last year an' the year afore, now he's singin' some more
Singin' songs he wrote, soundin' out every note
Amarillo by morning an' Purgatory Road, gettin away from a loathsome abode
Evelyn's singin' her songs like it's here she belongs
She's sure to be a hit singin' songs she herself writ
Mentions Cotton Eyed Joe, hear her guitar go
Singin' on the same spot
Where Buddy Holly sang to those in the Sky Vue parkin' lot
Now she's goin strong, singin' an Outlaw song
Support she's not lackin, with Steves guitar backin'
The winds now chillin' the crowds they're still thrillin'
Crowds like they meant to do on Friday night at Lamesa's Sky Vue
63) Show's endin' from the roof they'll soon be descendin
No one could dispute, their final Buddy Holly tribute
Steve sang "That'll be the Day"
To our joy, Evelyn sang "Oh Boy"
An' the final one from Buddy Hollys day, "Love is love not fade away".
20.4.13: 64) The morning sun chases the night away
It's the Forrrest Fests final day
Before we begin todays fun, reflect on what we done
Me an' Thom at the Boys and Girls Center
Supporting Bob, our earth arts mentor
Showin' those with little cash, art made from recycled trash
Marc had come along, on an outside stage gave us song after song
The before we know it, he's pointin his finger sayin' "Hey poet
now it's your time, get up and give us a rhyme"
Our talent not hid we did as bid
Provin' without doubt, that's what the Forrest Fest is all about.
65) Roots in the ground, branches point to the sky
Grow tree grow, give shelter to the birds that fly
Grow tree grow, so we can reflect on life below
Grow tree grow an proudly be, part of natures community
66) Dave the Mayor, Regina from the local press
With us as the tree we bless
But that's not that as we stand and chat
Like earth's sister and brother, getting to know more about each other
Interest shown as we become more known
Soon to go our separate ways, thinking of future days
An' I pray that through wind and rain, though miles apart we'll meet up again
67) The poets capture moments in time, and put them down to share in rhyme
Growing from inspirational seed, for future generations to read
So when the poets have gone, that moment in time forever lives on
For better or worse, in rhyme or free verse
You will always find, what poets have left behind
Don't ask "what should I do?" just read 'em cos' they left them for you
68) Are I pads the future glory, reading from them poetry or story
Electronic store from which to read more
All's well until you hear "drat, the durned battery's gone flat"
An' it sure ain't neat, when you accidentally press delete
That's how it may well be, for a techno dinosaur like me
So for my poetic caper, I'll stick to pencil and paper
But one day may raise the roof, if I find one that's Trevor proof.
69) Open mic on stage poets go, then time to let the music flow
Followed by time for kids to do rhyme
An' when they've done their poetry score It's music and poetry once more
Next a rest from vexation, with Thai relaxation
Easin' a stressful situation
All this leading to the memorial reading
To bring to the fore poets with us no more
When that's done, it's the final run
When we sing say or play, on the Forrest Fests final day
70) Poem 69 weren't the end of the line
To my delight I can still recite
For longer than a while, in my own Rhymey Limey style
Makin it plain, ain't no time to refrian, cos' the road poets writin' again
Poem 71 and 72 were written as a memorial poem for past Forrest Fest poets
71) Poets capture moments in time, and put them down to share in rhyme
Growing from inspirational seed for future generations to read
So when the poets have gone, the moment in time forever lives on
72) For better or worse, rhyme or free verse
Y0u'll always find what past poets have left behind
Don't aske "what do I do?"
Just read it cos' they left it for you
73) Steve whispered to Thom, was he bein' clever Sayin' "I got an introduction for Trevor"
Good or bad I won't be put out, cos' it proves I'm being thought about
74) Steve did recite an' to my delight
My introductory ode, was based on King of the Road
I thought it grand, smiled and shook his hand
So amid the mirth, I'll prove my worth
Not have folk thinkin' I blew it
An' at the end of the day, Steve'll say
"Trev's intro I was right to do it"
