Trev hits Texas again, his 2013 tour. (Austin to San Antonio)
Image: A model of the Alamo, in the Alamo, most of the forground has been buillt on and is called Alamo Plazza. Only the mission still stands, and part of the long barracks.
98) Breakfast done, from Austin I'm gone,
Interstate 35 I'm on
Makin' my way neath clouds of grey
To San Antonio just over an hour away
Drivin' along listenin' to a country song
Weatherman says it's gonna rain
Never mind just stay in lane
Check the mirror look over my shoulder
Drive with care if I want to get older
Map so's I'm knowin just where I'm goin'
Come what may, to San Antonio just over an hour away
99) Arrived safe then I'd a mind, tonight's venue to find
But so I didn't look my worst, got my ironin' done first
The motel staff couldn't have been better
Followed their instructions to the letter
410 West I was bound, Barnes and Noble easily found
Gonna read my poetry there tonight
Now back to the motel more poems to write
100) Tonight I'll be takin the road that's leadin' To Barnes and Noble for a poetry readin
But first I did yearn, the true story of the Alamo to learn
The true story, not Hollywoods hyped up glory
But how the battle was only 90 minutes long, the Mexican army far too strong
The mission, men from many nations guarded
Day by day, by mexican canon bombarded
Men fightin for what they believe in, bravely dyin' no time for grievin'
Fire, fire and fire again, sacrifice not in vain
No surrender or retreat, Travis stayed till he was beat
But on that early march morn
His defeat meant the Texas republic was born
A letter he would write, would inspire others to tyranny fight
Now we see history unfurled how his letter shaped a future world
When to fight tyranny we go, we just remember The Alamo
101) No impropriety at The Sun Poets Society
Every Tuesday night they recite
Name on the list so you won't be missed
And you too can be heard spreadin' the spoken word
102) Don't take fright, just get up and recite
Be a hit with your words and wit
Don't sit back and think "I blew it"
Take the plunge get up and do it
103) I spoke slow and I spoke clear, so every word the others would hear
Spoke with care my poems to share
An' it would be, others sharin their poems with me
Drivin' back to the motel the rain was spittin', soon the sack I'll be hittin'
Cos' come tomorrow I'll be on Interstate 37
Headin' for another poetry heaven.
