Voting deadline nears for Morning Star's Protest in Poetry award

entry picture

The deadline is Thursday 6 June at noon to take part in voting for the Morning star newspaper’s first award for Protest in Poetry. Voters are invited to nominate whatever they think has made the biggest contribution to "political" or "protest" poetry over the past 12 months, from an anthology, collection or website, to an individual poet, publisher or editor. As well as individuals, contenders include Catechism: Poems for Pussy Riot, which won a Saboteur award this week; the anthology of verse versus austerity, The Robin Hood Book; the online database, Fit To work; Poets Against Atos; and Poems for Freedom, an anthology to raise funds for a firebombed anarchist bookshop, to name but four. The winner will be announced at the Stoke Newington literary festival in north London, taking place from 3-9 June. You can vote here

I hope they are considering David Floyd's "Protest" pamphlet! Excellent, funny, true!
