I'm baaack...

Apologies for vanishing from your computer screens and hebden bridge pubs, but the weather and my school work were conspiring to keep me away from you, however, i have a new poem for you all :)

The War

I kissed her.
My mouth upon hers,
Her breath tasting so sweet.
I kissed her,
I looked into her eyes,
And I whispered.
I'm sorry.

I lost my common sense that night.
The next day i picked up my weapons,
And set off to war,
Conquest after conquest fell before my,
Charm and wit.
My skill and sweat.

I stormed the city,
and found her captor,
I stormed the city,
and i stole her,
I stormed the city,
and i left him in the ruins.

And then just for a moment,
When she lay in my arms,
And we shivered to the music of the gods,
She was my Helen of Troy.

And at that moment,
the armies of guilt,
and hurt,
and uselessness fell upon me.
I kissed her again,
I looked away,
and only i knew of the tear that went to that war,
a tribute,
to her.

I returned to that city.
I watched you go through the gate.
I returned to the city,
I saw not a captor but a protector.
I returned to the city,
And realised i had never won the war,

He deserved you,
but you'll always be,
my helen of troy.
