A poem dedicated to my girlfriends parents:
We, the righteous citizens of
Wish to file a complaint.
We find the words sex, drugs and all affiliated terms,
“Street” or otherwise a tad insensitive to our moral and ethical codes,
And therefore we wish them to be removed from all:
Song lyrics,
Plays,
Movies,
Video games,
Books,
Radio shows,
Pharmaceutical companies,
Adult stores,
And msn screen names.
This is due to the fact we find these words offensive and don’t want them polluting the minds of our children.
Thank you,
The righteous people of
We, the:
Office workers,
Bar tenders,
Musicians,
Artists,
Money lenders,
Advertisers,
Business owners
Anti-censorship campaigners,
Plumbers,
Builders,
Teachers,
Lovers,
Atheists,
Agnostics,
The adrenaline pumpers.
The old, young,
Healthy and sick.
Have considered your request, and thank you for taking the time to write to us.
However,
It has been denied.
This denial is for three major reasons:
1. Sex has been around since the dawn of time,
You see, we’ve always felt this need to sublime,
To a higher power, of pleasure and connection.
I can imagine you, stood at the dawn of creation,
Saying to the birds and the bees,
Just stop your fornicating please!
For it offends our common sensibilities.
But evolution is born from reproduction,
That pleasure and pain of physical emotion,
So who do you think you are to judge,
The ethics of these beings evolved from primordial sludge.
For without the rush of orgasm,
The human race would not function,
As we wouldn’t exist
As sex would not bring the bliss,
Of creation and formation,
That started off with just a kiss.
2. I can imagine you, sat at home,
With a cup of tea in your hand by the telephone,
In what way does that make you better than me?
Except for the fact I can see,
That what you’re in taking,
Drinking and making,
Is a drug none the less, so stop all this pretending.
A drug is something that changes bodily function,
For example, in fear that rush of adrenaline,
Increases heart rate,
Sweat levels,
Pupils dilate,
Kidney functions,
Slow down,
Diverting energy to muscles,
To stand and fight,
Or run in flight
To protect you and keep you safe from harm.
And so this is too a drug.
So with drugs all around us,
Inside us,
Part of us,
Why should we be offended by these natural processes,
We should speak of them loud and proud,
These achievements inside our bodies and out.
For the changing of bodily function,
Goes on everyday, set in motion,
By everything we do or say,
So why do you think drugs should be taken away?
3. Inspiration leads to creation.
How many poems, songs and movies are inspired in part,
By that rush of emotion,
From physical elation,
Brought through orgasm or chemical stimulation?
How many of our writers of old,
Were consuming stimulants or depressants?
And writing great works!
An example to made of is Sigmund Freud,
A man who has been argued over and sometimes despised,
For his theories on our brains workings,
How we grow up and its affects on our standings,
He came up with ideas other men didn’t think of,
And made theories that psychologists are still in use of,
But we know that this man took cocaine,
So should his ideas we thrown by the way,
Of course not, for they were ahead of his day,
Showing progress in an astounding way.
And how many musicians and writers of song,
Have been inspired by acts of a more carnal tone?
Sick love song,
Halleluiah,
Iamx,
And Amanda palmer,
Some songs and artists you might or might not have heard,
But all in my opinion artists of highest calibre.
And so ill quote you placebo,
Of meds and of bedrooms,
For we are the people who’ll enjoy the sequels,
And sing loud and proud,
To the tune of our equals,
And listen to the tales of:
The sex and the drugs and the complications,
The sex and the drugs and the complications,
Baby, did you forget to take your meds,
Baby, did you forget to take your meds,
I was alone,
Falling free,
Trying my best not to forget
The last stanza is taken from placebo's "Meds"

I just stumbled on this by accident and how fortunate that was! Brilliant! Like punching a wall and actually knocking it down. Well done!
