Moments of Calm
Moments of Calm
That smile that shone today –
Neither anticipated or deserved,
yet,
I found myself missing
The Smile a stranger can play,
Found myself subtly thinking of it
As the day drew to a close.
We don’t see it so much
These days with everyone
Hankering a beef with God,
We neither smile or laugh sincerely,
Neither give it altruistically,
Or without suggestion.
Her hair was red and,
Maybe her face was just as rosy
But I didn’t see none until she passed me by
And though I smiled in return,
It wasn’t till she’d passed
I could sense her honesty,
We just don’t smile as much as we should,
But today, her smile was the nourishment
That often goes overlooked,
Loaded with vitamins,
Loaded with calm for a moment,
The harm we do unto each our own
Became insignificant,
Became lost in the importance
Of understanding kinship between
All our fellow beings and,
I hope I pass her way today,
Just so I can say with the curling of lips,
And a sheen in my eyes,
Thank you for helping me feel human again.
