In The Arms Of Morpheus
In The Arms Of Morpheus
drifting over
dew cast lawns
bare footed and silent
the silken threads
of spiders webs
lacing toes with frost
melting footprints
cross the path
lead gently to
a flowing river
where dreams
pop to the surface
in silver bubbles
before being lost
In the flowing eddies
the trees
gather close
embracing
and protecting
the traveller
on this road
to nowhere
murmuring leaves
tell tales
of ancient cities
and a three headed
dog that growls
a warning
to the unwary
trespasser
cotton billows
flag-like
in a growing
breeze
wrapping around
flailing arms
and legs
Morpheus
standing
at the garden gate
calling home
his lover
his wings
beat steady
like a heart
just like a heart
he wants you
to stay
to play
awhile
to lay
in his arms
forever
some sound
diverts your eyes
and in that moment
he is lost
eyes
slowly
creak
open
the pulsing dots
on the digital clock
like a spray of bullets
at a summer massacre…
