The Hat
I thought I'd lost
My hat
And though I hadn't
For people like me
That's quite a thing
For that hat
Had been places
That hat carried
Part of me
And part of me
Lived within that hat
So you can imagine
The panic
When my hat
Wasn't where
It was supposed to be
And at that point
I knew
The kind of day
I was going to have
And so
I braced myself
Collected my thoughts
Though I had to find
A different place
To store them
For my hat and I
Had been parted
And I breathed deeply
And accepted the way
things were to be
And then
Low and behold
My hat appeared
Slightly ruffled
A little grumpy
Unwilling to share
Its adventures
But my hat all the same
And I was left to wonder
Whether the day
Or my life had changed
In any way
And whether things
Would ever be
The same
Again
