One of the most popular poets of the 1960s, Brian Patten, is making a rare London appearance early next month at the Word Cafe in Teddington, south-west London, on Thursday 5 June. Patten made his name as one of the Liverpool Poets alongside Adrian Henri and Roger McGough, and their joint anthology, The Mersey Sound, published by Penguin, brought poetry to a new audience.

Patten is also well-known for his best-selling poetry collections for children. On the bill with him are Jo Bell and Richard Tyrone-Jones, plus Kirsten Irving and singer-songwriter Isolda. Word Cafe founder and poet, Julie Mullen, a fellow Liverpudlian, said: “Having known Brian for many years, I am delighted that we will be welcoming this distinguished fellow Scouser to the Word Cafe in June, particularly after the wonderful reception given to Roger McGough when he appeared in 2013.”
