Spoken word stars on bill as Out-Spoken moves to new venue in Camden
Top performance poet Hollie McNish, and Chris Redmond, host of spoken word/music show Tongue Fu, are the star guests on Thursday 19 June at Out-Spoken, which has moved from its humble beginnings in a King’s Cross pub basement a year ago, to the Forge music and arts venue in Camden, north London.
Audiences can expect a wide range, from traditional page poets to choreographed, theatrical performance poetry and vocal performers, to folk singers, alternative electronica and leftfield hip-hop. The night is the brainchild of Anthony Anaxagorou, who says his aim in founding the event was to create “an eclectic distillation of what both the poetry and music scenes had to offer”. Out-Spoken doesn’t feature an open mic section, saying it prefers to give more time for featured artists to engage with the audience.
Also on the bill on Thursday night are Rafeef Ziadah, Palestinian poet, activist, and teacher; Jasmine Ann Cooray, former Farrago Summer Slam champ and Roundhouse slam runner-up; Kieran Leonard, folk singer-songwriter, and host of Hoxton's 'Gaslight'; and Christina Marie, a finalist on BBC's The Voice.
