Apeman

What happens
When you become
Too old to pretend
That you are
Tarzan
And
When you look
Into the mirror
It is
Your father's face
Staring back
Whilst your grandfathers
Look over
His shoulder

We all know
This world spins
Though we can't see it
We all know time moves
Though we can't
Always
Feel it
And then
Sometimes
There is
A jolt
And everything
Is thrown
Into perspective
For the flicker
Of the life
Of a match
And then it
Is gone
Though
Its memory
Dances
Just behind
Your eyes
As a semi-permanent
Shadow
Waiting
To become
Reality

Yes - have heard apeman
It was a toss up between apeman and caveman for the title but I think I went for apeman because however much we think we've evolved, we're still fairly ape-ish

I was more inclined to recall "Man In The Looking Glass" sung by Sinatra on his award
winning album "September Of My Years".
The subject matter of this post is always with
us - with the wisest taking the long term view
of que sera sera. Easier perhaps for men than
women but nature takes no prisoners.
I particuarly like the lines -
For the flicker
Of the life
Of a match
And then it is gone...
