The Sacrifice
The Sacrifice
On wounded knee
The flounder’s pond
Gossamer tree
Great hills beyond
Sat a slouched man
Crossed legs
A well meaning attune
An ear full of pegs
Barked light off the moon
Listen and he stays
Lighten and he strays
Prepared for global fight
Well into the night
Aware of seasons fair
As doubtless as their glare
Why it is in our design
To choose to kill our own kind
Cookie crumbs licked off elbows
Medically enhanced cocaine
Rubber checks bounce off windows
Pubes on a gold plated shower drain
Run the wires and heat the steam
Light our fires and see the dream
Become a hire and join the team
Show desire, class and esteem
Now admired tempted by fiends
A true provider, perfect it seems
You’re through, he hears in his head
In the pond swirls of bloody red
The night screams the words she said
You’ll see me no more lay in your bed
Not a flounder but a perch arises
Staring at the man as he cried
A tear met the water’s surface
Every life in the pond slowly died
