Religious War

What, to me seems beyond the belief of all,
Is how people can still muster religious wars,
Now in the twenty first century,
The crusades are long since ended,
Secularisation spreading at a rate of knots,
Seemingly forevermore.

Is it that all my life I've played the fool,
Thinking that religion itself is to blame,
Ill intent is perhaps innate,
To those who condone such genocides,
All the while, scapegoating their God,
Whom they seek to shame.

I know exacly what you mean, while some things in the Bible are relevant to living a good life, they do coincide with common sense a little too much to be borne of vast wisdom and other things I find are completely irrelevant to today. Not to mention, I'm a little skeptical, in general, of books that have gone through many different translations since their ancient origin. I don't have a problem with people who practice their religion in a way that doesn't harm anyone, directly or indirectly.

This is nice. To quote the bible "all fall short of the glory of God". Made in the image, but have much to over come For many years I blamed God for everything. But then I had not much knowledge of God at that time.Must remember many fail to understand that freedom from the world, is what we must try and have. There are those taught to kill in their Gods name, but it is only that they lack wisdom, and understanding, of the purpose of their own lives.I can find the dogma of religions, very offencive.I guess thats why I belong to no church. I enjoyed your poem.
