Songwriter for a Wedding
(I thought it would be best to describe the scenario here, the poem was to be recited by a good friend of the bride and groom, who happens to be a songwriter. They asked him/ her [I'll leave that to your discretion] to write the song from the wedding. The song ends and the two are married, the songwriter thought initially that nothing could drive them apart, but, as is evident, this is a poem written in retrospect and something goes wrong, as is hinted, not so subtlely, in the end verse.)
I recorded the feature song of the wedding day,
The D major rang out for a bar,
G major,
E minor,
And that's about as far,
As far as I got.
Then it came to the loop, the repeat,
The playing of a mere three chords,
The verse,
Prechorus,
Then came the chorus,
Singing:
"I swear it now,
With all the sincerity of my heart,
Whatever ghosts come between,
Nothing will part you and me,
In sickness and in health,
In poverty or wealth,
I swear to live out these vows,
'Till death do we part"
The melody rang through the ceremonial hall,
Tears of elation dripping down,
Women,
Men,
And children around,
A sudden quiet.
The music stopped,
They said their vows,
Bride,
Groom,
Nothing could touch them now,
Or so I thought...
