Wenlock poetry festival’s poet in residence, Jean Atkin, pictured, will be marking World Poetry Day on Saturday 21 March by hosting a workshop sparked by the world’s marvels at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery. Participants are invited to bring a picture or an object which represents one of the seven wonders of the world to the workshop, from 10am-12.30pm. More details

Julius Meinl, a coffee-roasting company based in Vienna, is marking World Poetry Day with a promotion in 1,100 cafes, bars and restaurants across 23 countries mostly in continental Europe but including the UK, the US and Australia, offering a coffee to any customer who hands over one of their own poems in exchange.

In more serious vein, English PEN raised once more the plight of poets jailed in Qatar, Kazakstan, and Cameroon, on World Poetry Day.
