Runners High

When the moon is towering

And blades of grass precipitating
I take to the streets
Drowning the silence of the night
With my feet
See the worlds asleep
And the cold air on my face
Is a blissful reminder
That I'm still awake
In the most natural state of the cosmos
Dark.
Unlit.
My feet hit the pavement
And I enjoy the loneliness
Running from unseen monsters
And things that only terrify you
In the absence of light
And my strong will to get away
Is my only way to fight
See I have a bad case of insomnia
Or maybe it's paranoia
Irregardless I'm running from something
Might be my lack of sleep
Or the things I make up
On every corner of every dark street
The demons in the night
Who coincidently all look like you
And the wind hits my face
With every memory of
What used to be
And I am numb to the fearful
Sounds that would make a sane person
Think twice about a jog at midnight
But I take in the air
And I take in the sights
That no one ever sees
Under these conditions
A tranquil state of immortality

I'm trying to make peace

With my demons
Starting with you
When we first met
The first thing you said to me was: baby
And I've been trying to find a way
To feel what I felt that day
Or to forget
You held my heart mischievously
And I forgot how to breathe
So I used other people as oxygen tanks
Holding hands like oxygen masks
Using kisses as a form of my personal CPR
But now I found my own breath
I run to feel the high
I run in the dark because I no longer need your light
The monsters I was scared of turned out
To just be my own shadow
The breaking of dawn
Brought me back life
And I'm awake
