There’s still time to sign up to compete in the Huddersfield heat of the Commonword Superheroes of Slam contest. The Huddersfield heat, run by Write Out Loud with Huddersfield University creative writing programme and Commonword, takes place in Huddersfield’s Bar 1:22 on 7 October at 8pm.

For the winner of this heat there’s a £25 cash prize as well as a place in the 23 October grand final in Manchester, the winner of which gets a £250 cash prize and a residential writing week of their choice at the Arvon Foundation, whose courses have changed many a writer’s life.

You can sign up to compete in the Huddersfield slam heat here. There are other Commonword heats in Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Wigan, Leicester, and Manchester. The Wigan slam heat is on the following night, 8 October, at The Old Courts, Wigan.
