You can't hurt the boy

You can't hurt the boy
Who often wished that he was dead,
And he can't calm the thoughts
That stir up sadness in his head.

Haunted by his memories,
His thoughts clouded by sadness,
He's sinking into depression,
Falling into madness.

He needs a change of scenery,
Something has to give,
Before he lets up,
And doesn't want to live.

This town had killed his happiness,
He once seemed to glow.
The pain he hides beneath it all,
No one will ever know.

He wants to change it all,
Find a way to end the pain,
Bring a beam of light and warmth,
And dry up all the rain.

He wants to be away from here,
Not really dead, but gone.
He wants to help the world find joy,
Then maybe, he'll move on.

For now, he's bound to stay in place,
But soon, he will be free.
He'll open up his eyes to find
That he can finally see.

Hahaha, I do find a lot of my pieces do that, and it frustrates me. I find that by the end, it either twists in a way which feels a little awkward, or it begins to contradict itself. This is because I use writing as an outlet, and usually by the time I near the end of a poem, I gain a clear mind and my thoughts change a little. I apologize for any changes that are difficult to follow, I think it's just my writing style, and it bothers me as well haha

There is much to admire in this poem, and much that is contradictory. I think the 'writer' needs to take a positive stand. Must he find the needed strength to continue daily living from 'outside influences'? Or can he raise, access acceptance and understanding from the depths of his own attitudes and personal courage?

This internal battle is with us all, all the time. Keep exploring, and certainly keep writing.

And welcome to WOL. You'll really enjoy it.
