Guru

Guru

He is wise, his eyes have seen it all

You cannot grasp the breadth

Of his understanding.

He is profound

Deep down his wisdom

Spans the aeons.

He is a master, He is a sage.

He is deep, but he is not impenetrable.

He will peel himself back

Sheet after sheet.

He is translucent

Each skin a statement.

You can see and smell and taste

Each layer, like a luscious onion.

Yes, indeed

He is truly both Sage and Onion.

Anyone for Stuffing?

◄ as if by magic...

Ha grasshopper, the guru's life was changed irrevocably the day his karma ran over his dogma

You're my guru Dave, or should that be Guru Dev?

I am reading only this week some more about Bhuddism by Ninian Smart in The Long Search.
Your poem is delightful, and I agree, quite in keeping with the humour I am sure is intrinsic to true 'enlightenment' reached via any process.

I wrote it for the Dalai Lama (not about him). Most Buddhists I 've met have a sense of humour, and some schools of Buddhism have a history of absurdism, irreverance, and jokiness.
