Five minutes

I lay my head back

Cupped behind my hands

My eyes fixed

My mind wanders

And the day slides

Into being

A distant dog barks

Its demand for attention

And light fills the room

The mist pushed back

The sun proclaims its presence

And I lie in perfect repose

At peace with self

With the world

For just five minutes

Before it starts again

Thanks for you comments guys. This was one of those rare moments when I woke up recently and put pen to paper so to speak almost immediately and then posted it the same day. Which is probably why the line should read 'cupped into my hands' as Cynthia has rightly pointed. I do normally spend more time over my poems. Honest guv!

Well-chosen subject, and very sympathetically developed. Do you, by any chance, mean 'cupped into your hands'? I haven't quite figured out that one line.

I love the moment in time you have captured Martin seeming to stretch with the arms into a sort of infinity. There is a meditation involved which can produce for me some poetry (wow that rhymed).
