Dark & Light
1.Dark not Light
Tense, all so taut
Cross, impatient
For no-one else a thought
Dark, not light
Brooding, silent
Muscles cramped so tight
Alone, so Alone
Screaming inside
Love turned to stone
Sadness and sorrow
Such painful disappointment
No light to come tomorrow
Dark, not light
Drowning slowly
Losing the fight
Slipping ever slowly
Further and further
Away from the light
Away from the muted sky
Towards the Dark below
That moves closer with its cold embrace.
2.Light not dark
Beautiful and serene
Bright, alluring
The best it’s ever been
Light, not dark
Happy, joyous
Leaving its mark
Surrounded
Laughter all around
Love and joy unbounded
Every day worth living
Tomorrow even better
Just have that feeling
Light, not dark
A wondrous sight
Never feeling stark
Rising quickly
Faster and faster
Towards the light
Towards the brilliance of the sky
Towards the light above
Waiting with its warm embrace
3.Inspiration
With my pen
Tapping a rhythm on my teeth
Sounds better than it feels.
Clicking the nib of my pen
In and out, In and out
Slightly annoying
But, oddly, very satisfying
Those damn Beavers
They have blocked the flow
Words and rhymes have all dried up.
Staring, unseeing, out the window
Spinning around on my swivel-chair
Which, whilst childish
Is also, oddly, very satisfying
Looking all around me
I know the inspiration
Must be surrounding me.
The right word or rhyme is out there somewhere
Maybe they’re hiding behind the bed
But not under it
‘Cos that’s where the monsters live
Radio on, Radio off
I’m too edgy to listen properly
But could do with a distraction.
To punctuate the silence
Unlock my dormant brain cells
And please, please, please
Give me that damn next line
Staring vacantly upwards
Grasping for the syntax
That will make this a classic
Scratch my head, pick my nose
But realise that all I have achieved
Is the sad knowledge
That the ceiling lampshade needs a clean.

Light Not Dark and Dark not Light are better read alongside each other. Part of a 55 selection of poems I have written under the subject Dark & Light where some stuff is whimsical and the rest is definitely not.
Inspiration - well that was just recording how I felt at the time - still need something to dust the lampshade... Nah. Just having some fun.
Anyway, enjoy or otherwise. Any feedback always welcome. I am new to this lark since being forced out of work for a year, so decided to fill my time writing rubbish. God, I so need a job now. Skint. I am only a dustbin man after all, which is why the rubbish comes so naturally to me. But a broken ankle and ribs have not helped the cause. Anyway, I'll skip that part.
