Wedding dress

Wedding dress

I’ve still got the picture of you

The one I carry round with me

The picture of you

In a wine stained wedding dress

The photograph has faded now

Like the vows of your wedding day

But my memory won’t forget

The day it all spilled out

The words the people

The laughter

The promises you could never keep

The horror and delight

You the blushing mouthy bride

Beside you your proud and happy groom

The melted candles

Running down the bottles

The emptiness of your life

The tears that you must have

Spilled years later alone inside your bed

Away from the laughing hyenas

And the lighter than air heads

I still carry that picture round in my head

Walking round the garden

Watching you

Watching him

Watching people

Talking

Drinking slurping

Feeding

Looking at me, saying whose he

The marquee alive with the tinkle

And the sprinkle of

The wine on your white wedding dress

A stain on your life

Bright blood red

Now decades later

You are someone else in another life

But I still have that picture

Going round in my head

Martin, this is serious stuff but wonderful and evocative.

Powerful stuff Martin. Excruciating, and the idea of the wedding dress as representing purity is a useful reference point in the sorry tale. It rather reminds me of the Les Dawson one liner;" I had a fairy tale wedding - Grimm."
