on the outside
what lies beneath
many people’s daggers hide
inside their pretty sheaf
same trait for many
but it always beggars belief
when trusted friends
thrust
themselves ,
heavy on your back
always taking something
burden black
here find- a Samaritan the biggest heart,
helping
yet still they claw and hack.
carrion’s
like the roadside lark
magpie
a knife in the back.
I inspect hard-edged kerbs very closely
in the guttered ground
and all this dust
I pack, experience into parcels
and label it mistrust
-you rub my nose on them.
-I have become road kill
a dark stain spreads
between shoulder blades.
curious if they realise
curious if they celebrate inside
that the tear rolls
on my cheek where shone sweeter
where grew glades
-and that they exhaled it.
I only ask why.
use my struggling understanding of human nature
to justify,
these things they do.
forgiving.
that’s me
different from many, maybes
different from you?
yet aren’t we all supposed to be the same?
Help me out here
I’m confused.

Isobel and Francine are right Pete. We're not all the same. If we were this life would be a very boring existence.
It is disheartening though when we feel let down because of misinterpretations or other things which get to us when we're not feeling very strong or tetchy depending on which end you're at. Overcoming the testing times can be hard work but is all part of the bigger picture. Is it worth it? Well only you can decide that!
One sided friendships/relationships never work for long without returning to the same gripes over and over again. Communication is the key. Without that you have nothing and even that is a two way process. See?
I like the way you've expressed the emotions in this Pete. You have a knack of doing that whether it is personal to you or not.
