2 peas in a pod
2 peas in a pod
we grow perfect
side by side
loads of us
all neatly arranged
ready to pop out
I was just like you
an evergreen
our fibres lose their hold
breaking
I shall be wary of the forks
you told me about
how they pierce
those needle pricks
prod
pea skin flexes
stubborn not wanting to burst
full of resistance to life
a form of innocence
but then they apply more pressure
and the hydrated develop a thirst
and the damn things are inside us
the end of silver service forks
full of holes
waiting for virgin olive oil
to become superheated
making us into cordon bleu
thrown into the pan
and jingled around
-life is the cook
good taste,
hope he’s not too hasty
as it took me ages to learn complexity
how life is not as it seems
soon we shall be served up
with little singed edges
every one a story of hardship shells
an introduction to the harsh experiences
of life
and just as I feel I’m complete,
just as im about to call mum and ask,
“was it really supposed to be like this?”,
some eager diner consumes us
and its over before I could frustratingly say
darn!
I was just starting to enjoy myself

An interesting look at life and its transiency Pete. Like Francine, I love the analogy and think the 'shells' have an awful lot of bearing on how we cope with it all...
