Computer Error

There's no avoiding computers now
I.T is everywhere
But with the hunt to get online
Comes the onset of grey hair

"You really ought to buy one"
Said the slick man in the shop
"I don't know how you do without"
He opined in a modern strop

So I bought one, as I thought I should -
A new world to explore
But did my troubles vanish?
No, they multiplied all the more

I couldn't handle Facebook
Twitter made me just despair
Google made me boggle
And took me unaware

Word corrected my smelling mistakes
Then added some of its' own
Excel added up my worries
Like a joyless Al Capone

Then it started making some odd sounds -
It purred with a clunk and a grind
And told me that my windows needed cleaning,
If I could find the time

Fair enough I thought - an easy job
I know how to clean a pane
So I dipped the screen in Windowlene...
And went back to the shop again

Be warned then - a new computer
Will leave you feeling weak.
And you should always expect to be dug out your mess
By some condescending geek

These lines will surely resonate with many readers,
including yours truly.
I was in my mid-60s when I was convinced by a chum
to get a PC & get with it! I was kind enough to myself
to make sure I got a couple of guidebooks at the outset
- and that certainly made my new life in cyberspace a
lot easier than it might otherwise have been. I had just
got used to Internet Explorer when I was led to Google
Chrome which I forsook for Firefox - all the time making
sure I had online security to keep the nasties in check.
There have been some scary moments when everything
looked set to got bent on me but it's been fun most of
the time, leading to an expansion of my retirement world
towards sites like this and many others that have added
to my enjoyment and knowledge. Then, of course, there is invaluable "email". What would I do without it?
So - the moral surely has to be: stick with it and don't
be discouraged when hiccups happen. The answer is
out there!
