SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO?
In future years, beyond our own brief span,
Historians will write of what occurred
When an island nation stood up and ran
With a momentous decision one "June twenty third"
A date when the thought passed to and fro
When wrestling with the facts and fiction:
Should I stay - or should I go?
Who has true claim to jurisdiction?
History is there to tell its tale
To show us what was done and why
Of what was won or seen to fail
The voices past heard whispering "try".
In maritime or land-based ventures
The world knew when the Brits. set out,
In varied and high risk indentures
They showed that world what trade was about.
Never daunted - as if to say
Nothing ventured - nothing to gain!
Remember those who led the way
When asking should I go - or remain?

"Piracy and plunder"?
Indulged in by many nations of old seeking influence and an empire, lest we forget.
But the term "merchant venturer" is recognised and
even found its way on to the headboard of a famous
GWR express train of my own youth.
