A former world poetry slam champion, Buddy Wakefield, will be performing in Wakefield, UK, later this month. The US poet, who won the world poetry slam championship in 2004 and 2005, will be performing at Unity Words in Wakefield on Wednesday 29 June following an appearance at Glastonbury festival.

Ralph Dartford, founder of Unity Words said:  “It’s such an honour to have someone like Buddy come and perform in Wakefield as part of his UK tour. As one of the biggest slam poets in the world it’s great to have such a internationally renowned artist appear in Wakefield. Unity Words is going from strength to strength and this is a great opportunity for the people of Wakefield to see someone at the top of their game.”

Unity Words is a monthly event at Unity Works on Westgate in collaboration with A Firm of Poets and Word Life. Entry is free with audience members encouraged to “pay what you feel” at the end of the night. Buddy Wakefield will be supported by Mike McGee and Peter Spafford, with music from Some Like It Ossett.
