If
I should have done it differently
Had my neck been less stiff
Treated it all less flippantly
And now I’m thinking ‘if’.
My mind was elsewhere when you came
Wandering for a jiff
Daydreaming is all I can blame
And now I’m pondering ‘if’.
If I’d just thought before I spoke
Too caught up in the tiff
I only thought it was a joke
And now I’m left with ‘if’.
Of all the stupid things to say
And sure to cause you grief
In all the English tongue today
The longest word is ‘if’.
