LONESOME RAIL - a railroad song/lyric
Darlin' - now I'm miles away from where I long to be
Now there's too much distance keeping you from me
I lie awake most every night to the locomotive's wail
And my heart heads back down the waiting track
To ride that lonesome rail
I see your face before me whenever I'm alone
I hear your voice implore me: "Don't leave me on my own"
It hurts too much to realise I was the one to fail
And I'll be right back down the waiting track
To ride that lonesome rail
Every time I think on you and all the things you are
I wish this lonely bed of mine was a rocking railroad car
They could pack me up and post me - I'd be your express male
And roll right back down the waiting track
To ride that lonesome rail
I see your face before me whenever I'm alone
I hear your voice implore me: "Don't leave me on my own"
It hurts too much to realise I was the one to fail
And I'll be right back down the waiting track
To ride that lonesome rail.
(My thanks to Pete Dymond of Diamond Studios, Bristol, who is heard on this version)

Very kind, JC. In this instance, the tune and the lyric are
my own, though I have worked with composers elsewhere.
I have always had a fondness for railroad songs - they
seem to embody the restless and often sad and unfulfilled aspects of life which find a response in yours truly.
Your parodies are another skill and have no equal on WOL.
Keep them coming to keep us smiling.
