Dreams Of Demons
I toss and turn, and wake in fright
With heaving breast and fevered brow;
Recalling from my sleep somehow
My dreams of demons in the night.
For in those dreams doubts soon unroll,
When sanity begins to fail,
And trembling terrors then assail
The deepest reaches of my soul.
Then quaking in my sodden sheets,
And breathing deep to stay my fears,
My fervent prayer as morning nears,
Tonight there will be no repeats.
But in a dark recess there lies
A fleeting remnant left behind,
To keep my courage undermined
And hopes of tranquil sleep denies.
