White Dragon

entry picture

He crouched, as if to spring into the air;

A thousand yards he stared across the waves,

While concentrating on the mental search

Across the world to scry the lost enclave.

To find again his broodmates was his dream,

Their disappearance heavy on his heart;

The long, long months he’d searched across the land,

Despairing at the time they’d been apart.

He stretched into the air his mighty wings,

Preparing once again to leap in flight,

To fly the same search patterns once again,

In readiness to hunt all through the night.

His lordly bearing sank a little low,

As daily failure took a heavy toll;

But then he rallied, shrugging off the pain,

To rise again and fly his lone patrol.
