Familiar Environment?
Familiar Environment?
I hear the sound of my breath
Loud and heavy as I explore an alien,
Yet seemingly familiar environment.
I have to remember to keep breathing
As I crane my neck in all directions
Amazed at what I can see
My body is encapsulated in black
As I become more confident
And improve my glide
My guardian angel partly controls
My vest as I rise and fall
And feel changing degrees all over
I am weightless and as my accoutrements
Become lighter, then un-noticed
I begin to feel free.
Sparkling shafts of light pierce through
Shimmering like snakes
They reveal movement and abundance
Ancient configurations layered with life
Tell a million year-old story,
I hear explosions and see fire
I glide easily feeling natural,
Free, confident and without my guardian,
As I pulse on by
I catch sight of a flipper
See a non-verbal signal recently learned
And come up from my first dive.
