Orphan Drive
As I walked through Newsham Park, down a darkened Orphan Drive.
I came to the abandoned asylum, where spirits they say still thrive.
Inside the old wards, lie discarded wheelchairs and relinquished chains.
Rusty old trollies are scattered about,in these derelict old remains.
Sudden temperature drops are not uncommon, which add to the chill.
Mortuary fridges a reminder of its past, an eerie past that lingers still.
Reports that 'dragging' noises from empty kitchens can often be heard.
A child's face was once seen from an attic window, crying and scared.
An attic that had rows of 'naughty cupboards', now it's in dark decay.
In those naughty cupboards, sick children would be cruelly locked away.
This vast old hospital building has an atmosphere so oppressive and bleak.
Within its corridors and walls, sadness seems to ooze from its every creak.
Based a real deserted lunatic asylum in Liverpool not far from where I live.

My brother worked on this, Mike, many years ago and reckoned that the walls were a thousand feet thick.
