Dark Enchantress
Pale wraith emerges from the cloud,
Takes on her fearsome form,
She stands magnificent and proud,
Hair flails as in a storm.
As piercing eyes perceive my fear,
Her staff it flares and glows;
She stabs me with a steely sneer
That chills down to my toes.
A fell horned beast beside her howls,
Wings flared as though in flight;
With monstrous fangs in scabrous jowls,
A waking nightmare sight.
I fall down quaking on my knees,
Heart hammering with dread,
Preparing frantic, plaintiff pleas,
As lucid reason fled.
The dark enchantress deigns to speak,
Her voice oozing with ice.
My future now appearing bleak,
Her latest sacrifice.
Accepting now my awful fate,
I sadly bow my head,
And trembling as my doom awaits,
With tears as yet unshed.
Inscrutably she looks at me,
And lowers down her staff;
Then in its gaping maw I see
The dragon’s silent laugh.
