Trev in the Holy Land 2016: A pilgrimage in the footsteps of Jesus: The journey out
Image: Arrival Ben Gurion Airport. Tel Aviv
28/11/16 – 3) At the airport waiting early anxiety abating
Taxi ride fine, here in plenty of time
Just as well because the customs scanner did tell
Something was wrong but it didn’t take long
To sort it put, now we’re ready to fly out
Waiting for them to open the gate,
Me and Mary my travelling mate
Our breakfast meal not a bad deal
A Burger King found, but where we’re bound
We hope to find, and follow in the footsteps of a King of a different kind
4) Through gate 15 we’ve been
On the plane greeted, eventually all seated
Luggage stowed neat, in overhead locker or under seat
Instructions given safety checks done, away we run
Take off heading upwards towards heaven flight EZY 1827
Heading east towards the sun, our pilgrimage has begun
5) Sea below, eastwards we go
Time to reflect on what to expect
Main thing to arrive safe and sound on the ground
Through custom, luggage inspection then collection
Then to our hotel where till December 1st we’ll dwell
Overlooking the Sea of Galilee
And in the morning walk on the shore where Jesus walked before
And maybe try to understand,
The meaning of the story, “Footprints in the Sand”.
Or maybe just reflect on when
Jesus said to James and John,
“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men”.
6) Downward we go the lights of Tel Aviv below
Almost end of flight and its early night
Getting lower, engine going slower
Beautiful sight lit up so bright, house and street light
Getting clearer as we draw nearer
That’s it we’re down, the Holy Land we’re in
Now to disembark and let the pilgrimage begin
7) We boarded the bus and made our way
I wondered what it would have been like in Jesus’ day
How long would it take to walk to be?
On the beach at the Sea of Galilee
So to our hotel we’ll head for a welcome supper and comfy bed
And tomorrow I’ll be, walking on the beach at the Sea of Galilee
