I have some vivid, awful dreams/ nightmares.

 

There must have been fifty of them,

burning cars

burning people

running

screaming

silent screams

on this highway of fire,

the stink of burning flesh

filled my head on this

summer night.

 

In the shadows

my long dead

parents and grandparents

watched silently

as children burned,

my parents held aloft babies

in their skeletal arms

for me to see before

the fire consummed all.
